Warner Brothers also issued a series of compilation albums in the early 70s. They were very good, cheap, and featured both established and up and coming performers. They let the listener take chances on tracks by people not popular at the time like Ry Cooder, Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt and the Pentangle to name a few. I had a friend thirty years older than me who got one of these records who then asked me "Who are these guys named Jethro Tull and Frank Zappa?"
