During the 1960s there was a lot of recording of seemingly unqualified singers singing the pop songs of the day. One category was great singers trying to be current with disastrous results. An example of this is Julie London recording "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy". It breaks my heart. The other group is the group which includes Shatner. Totally unqualified people trying to make a buck. The ultimate collection was a recording called "Golden Throats". I think it was released on Rhino Records.
Leonard Nimoy- Proud Mary and If I had a Hammer
Sebastian Cabot-It ain't me Babe and Like a Rolling Stone
Frankie Randall- I Can See for Miles
Noel Harrison- A Whiter Shade of Pale
Jack Webb- Try a Little Tenderness ( Otis, my man!)
Eddie Albert-Blowin in the Wind ( I give Eddie a pass since he was a really good friend of Woody Guthrie)
Joel Grey- White Room( must be heard to believed )
And finally Shatner - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Mr. Tambourine Man.
My friends loved this recording it never failed to generate rolling on the floor chuckles. Find it if you can.
